The Cape Winelands

The Wine Industry has a history dating back to 1652, with the first grape wine being pressed in 1659. There are now over 500 wine farms and estates in the Cape Winelands, so visitors to the area are spoilt for choice. Most of South Africa’s vineyards are found in the Western Cape near the coast and the weather is perfect for growing grapes. A new generation of winemakers are coming to the fore and as a result, there has been a shift from grape farming to wine growing. Each wine farm is unique with their own story to tell.

There are a number of wine routes to follow in the Cape Winelands, with the Stellenbosch Wine Route being the oldest in the country representing over 300 wineries.  Other wine routes are Constantia, Franschhoek, Paarl, Darling, Robertson, Elgin, Swartland and others.

Cape Town was chosen as the world’s top tourist city for the seventh time in the 2019 Telegraph Awards with over 39,000 Telegraph readers casting their votes for their favourite holiday destination.

The Cape Winelands experience is unique and should on every wine lovers bucket list!
