About Spice Route Destination
The story begins centuries ago when the Cape Route from Europe to the Indian Ocean via the Cape of Good Hope was pioneered by the Portuguese explorer navigator Vasco da Gama in 1498. Settlers in the Cape who loved exploring new exotic flavours and experiences had to wait for the seasonal return of the traders travelling the Spice Route.

With a joint venture of the Back siblings, Abigail Bisogno and Charles Back, a modern day Spice Route in Paarl was created, and developed into a place for visitors to explore. Eat, Taste, Shop and Discover the artisans who were invited to join the Spice Route Destination. Celebrating Cape culture, family friendly, wide open spaces, and so much more to offer. For the energetic, the Hero Adventure Trails on the farm are popular as well as Pilates for Life, Paarl’s premier Pilates training facility. La Grapperia Bistro and Pizzeria – diverse and flavourful selection of wood-fired, thin based pizza (rated the best this side of the winelands!), flammkuchen and platters with a glass of wine or beer on tap
Barley & Biltong Emporium – Craft beer and biltong lovers can look forward to enjoying an ice cold pint of their favourite CBC beer together with carefully selected range of Beef biltong and Gourmet burgers.
DV Café – Freshly Roasted Coffee, Gluten Free Cakes and Homemade Ice Cream. DV Café use their own chocolate, coffee and local produce like fresh strawberries. Delicious!

Spice Route Wines – Artisanal, small batch, hand-crafted wines, have been brought from the Swartland to the Spice Route Destination in Paarl, to be enjoyed by all. A difference you can taste in every sip!
Cape Brewing Company aka CBC – produces and offers a wide range of beers using only the finest ingredients, state of the art equipment and is made by the highly skilled brewmaster, Wolfgang Koedel. “He is a wise man who invented beer” said Plato… and we agree!
De Villiers Chocolate – Chocolate from the cocoa bean with unique flavour profiles – a chocolote lovers dream!
Brenda’s Deli – deli products and preserves that are additive-free and made from fresh, natural ingredients – mix your own blend of spices to create adventures in flavour. Can smell the aroma from here…
Wilderer Distillery and Spice – At Wilderer Distillery, on-site distillery, you will witness some of the world’s finest grappa, gin and eau de vie (schnaps). Fynbos Gin… love the name!

Red Hot Glass – a world-class glassblowing studio which has been producing original glasswork for over twenty five years, from hand-blown perfume bottles to designed colourful vases, chandeliers, sculptures and piece unique artefacts. Incredible, seeing is believing!
