About Rustenberg

The Rustenberg Estate has a rich history dating back to 1682 and by 1781, around 3000 cases of wine were produced on the farm.  The Estate is nestled in the valley of the Simonsberg Mountain which is located in South Africa’s premium wine region, Stellenbosch. A magnificent setting.

In 1941 Peter and Pamela Barlow bought Rustenberg, later acquiring Schoongezicht and reuniting the properties. Their son Simon took over the running of the farm in 1987. Simon’s son, Murray, joined in the running of the farm with his father in 2012. The Barlows have been at Rustenberg for over 75 years: the longest period any one family has owned the farm.

Award-Winning Rustenberg Wines

There are three ranges, the Site Specific, the Flagships and the Regional range. 80% of Rustenberg wines are exported, however, locals and tourists are welcome to visit the tasting room when open.

Site Specific Range – Typifying the finest terrioirs of Rustenberg, the site specific range is comprised of two wines that emphasize the apex of varietal expression. Made in small quantities, these wines are well structured, full bodied and benefit from careful cellaring making them highly collectable.

The Flagships – The Estate’s three flagships are the Stellenbosch John X Merriman Bordeaux blend, the single-site sourced Buzzard Kloof Syrah, and the barrel fermented and matured Stellenbosch Chardonnay. They are an expression of the Estate and Stellenbosch’s finest vineyards blending various vineyard sites to create wines that are greater than the sum of their parts. All three of the wines benefit from careful bottle aging.

Regional Range – Rustenberg’s regional range comprises of a range of wines that typify the regions within which they are produced or blended from. Predominantly consisting of, but not confined to varietal wines.
