About Muratie Wine Estate
Muratie Wine Estate is the oldest privately owned wine farm in South Africa. The Estate has a history dating back to 1685 when Laurens Campher settled on the farm. Beside the house is the oak tree his beloved wife, Ansela van de Caab, planted after joining him at Muratie 10 years later, in 1695. MOK art gallery on the Estate, is located in Ansela’s house.
Muratie’s rich history is captured in every nook and cranny. Wherever you are on the estate you cannot help being moved by a sense of the many generations that have lived and worked here. The buildings, the artifacts and even the shrubs and trees exude an aura of the colourful past reaching towards an even more fruitful future. Then once you have experienced this absorbing atmosphere, you will literally taste it in the Tasting Room where our wines can be savoured every day of the week.

Muratie Vineyards and Wines
Muratie’s passion for preserving their rich heritage is matched by the way they produce their fine wines. In order to avoid the need for environmentally insensitive pesticides, the vineyards are kept pest-free by ever-vigilant flocks of ducks and geese. All grapes are handpicked which gives them a better understanding of the quality of the harvest and thereafter, all the grapes used for winemaking are hand selected before extracting the juice. “It’s the smooth bouquet that counts – drink Muratie wines made from the finest grapes, ripened in the South African sun. Every drop in your glass is full of flavour and strength, it gladdens the heart and loosens the tongue. It is the strength of a pure wine that enables you to face care and trouble with a lighter heart and so quickly dissipate that feeling of depression. In this manner it incidentally fortifies the body against infections and disease.” Wine Tasting at Muratie
