About The Myburgh Family

The Myburgh family are privileged to have been farming in the Muldersvlei area for the fifth generation to date. The farm and winery is named after the De Meye river in Holland, which was the birthplace of the first Myburgh, who came to farm in South Africa in 1665.  The Myburgh family history and farming tradition forms an integral part of the business with the Myburgh’s family crest being the De Meye Wine Estates’ logo. The family has enjoyed a long-term farming relationship with the Mulservlei region, the environment and people.

About Philip Myburgh

The current owner is of De Meye is Philip who took over from his father Jan Myburgh. He spent his childhood on the farm, growing up between cows, fruits and grapes, and after college and some overseas experience, returned to the De Meyer estate and joined his father in the family business.

The Vineyards

Our vines growing on the De Meye farm have been carefully selected to suit the unique terroir. The current vineyards are planted to Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Shiraz for the red wines and rosé, as well as Chardonnay and Chenin Blanc as our white varieties.
The farm is 100ha in size and holds its own winery, cellar and storage. We like to keep things real and personal at De Meye, and therefore take it the whole process ourselves. From the farming side, to the cellar, and further on to sales and exports. This way, we can at all times, ensure the high quality and authenticity that distinguishes De Meye.

Weddings and Events

What used to be an old dairy shed back in the days, has now been converted to a characterful, historic, yet modern, light and spacious venue where today’s people meet, mingle and celebrate! The space can be hired for events of all sorts, from weddings to birthday parties and corporate functions and can accommodate up to 130 people. It offers a bar area, plenty of space for dancing, two attached stoeps, access to De Meye’s ‘signature lawns’ and gardens, as well as newly built sanitary facilities. ENQUIRE HERE

Lavender Oil and Flowers

De Meye was one of the first wine farms in South Africa to produce lavender essential oil. Isabella Lavender Oil is named after Philip Myburgh’s mother, who lives on the farm. Lavender oil is believed to have antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties, which can help to heal minor burns and bug bites. Research suggests that it may be useful for treating anxiety, insomnia, depression, and restlessness. The Isabella oil is made and sold in small quantities on the farm and is available from a few selected outlets in the Stellenbosch and Boland area… look out for bunches of lavender during blooming season!
