About Ken Forrester

The history of the farm dates back to 1689 and was first named Scholtzenhof, one of the oldest farms in Stellenbosch. After a succession of owners and hard times especially in the 1990’s, the farm was purchased on an auction by Ken Forrester and his wife, Teresa, in 1993. The farm was renamed Ken Forrester and the first wines under the Ken Forrester label were produced in 1994.

We strive to manage our vineyards in a sustainable manner, and we are registered with ECOSERT for organic certification. Our workplace environment and work ethic should be a shining light in the industry.

Ken Forrester, AKA Mr. Chenin, has had a profound impact on the South African wine industry as a flag-bearer for Chenin Blanc, a founder of the very successful Chenin Blanc Association, and a passionate spokesman for all that is Chenin.

In 2019, Ken Forrester Vineyards celebrated their 25th Anniversary.

Ken Forrester Vision

It is our vision to improve the lot of our employees by growing our business and thereby providing maximum job opportunities in a market that is desperate for support. We go a step further, we farm sustainably with no herbicides or pesticides, we till by hand, hugely labour intensive, but very satisfying, we prune, thin bunches and leaves all by hand and finally we harvest by hand. This additional employment we hope goes some way to improving the quality of life in our community and we know that if every community looked after their own, no-one would go wanting. This is our proposal, and consequently each bottle is a victory and represents a small change – for the better – in someone’s life.
