Hawaii Governor Affirms Safety of Travel Outside West Maui Despite Ongoing Recovery Efforts

Governor Josh Green has addressed concerns regarding travel safety in Hawaii, specifically in West Maui, during a recent news conference. He reassured the public that while travel to West Maui is discouraged due to ongoing recovery efforts following a devastating tragedy, other parts of Maui and the rest of the Hawaiian islands remain safe for visitors.

The governor emphasized the need to balance economic well-being and disaster recovery efforts, acknowledging the potential impact of decisions across the islands.

The Hawai’i Tourism Authority also supported this stance, urging travelers to show respect by avoiding West Maui, including areas like Lāhainā, Nāpili, Kāʻanapali, and Kapalua. The emergency proclamation issued on August 13 remains in effect, strongly discouraging nonessential travel to West Maui throughout August. The affected region of Lāhainā remains inaccessible to the public as search and recovery operations continue.

Travelers are encouraged to explore other parts of Maui and neighboring islands, such as Kauaʻi, Oʻahu, Lānaʻi, Molokaʻi, and Hawaiʻi Island.

A more comprehensive announcement and discussion about this situation is anticipated in a statewide address by Governor Green on Friday. For updates on Maui’s emergency management and recovery efforts, as well as ways to support the affected community, individuals can visit mauistrong.hawaii.gov.

As traveling can be expensive these days, what with the prices of hotels, airfare, transportation, and food, I had always thought taking trains was a good way of cutting unnecessary costs.

However, a new report has confirmed that these days, it’s in fact the opposite, and flying is considerably cheaper than traveling by train.

Grocery stores are the best travel souvenir shops

No matter where I am traveling in the world, my suitcase always returns home with a few souvenirs stuffed between my socks and boxers. Yet I rarely browse around a gift shop and often leave a touristy craft market empty-handed. Instead, I’ve found some of my most treasured travel mementos come from an unlikely but everyday place: the shelves of local supermarkets.

Retirement may be the time in your life where you can make those travel dreams come true, but it also comes around the age where travel insurance gets seriously more complicated.

That’s because at 60 years and above, insurers will generally start to ask much more detailed questions about your health history to better calculate the risk they’re taking on.
