Founded in 1881, Gansbaai is not only a natural paradise between mountains and the ocean, it’s a small bustling town with so much to do and see.

Gansbaai is a working harbour with a very active Shark Cage diving industry and whale watching destination.  The great white sharks attract some of the highest numbers of tourists to South Africa for any single activity.  The vast mountainous landscapes are covered with Cape Floral Kingdom, otherwise known as ‘fynbos‘. Nature lovers and adventurers can enjoy hiking, biking, 4×4 and horse riding trails on the various pristine beaches and nature reserves around Gansbaai, which is abundant with plant and animal life.

GREAT WHITE SHARKSmile for the camera!

One of the major attractions to Gansbaai, is the Southernmost Wine Route in Africa, the Cape Agulhas Wine Route, where wine growers worked together to use the environmental extremities of the Agulhas Plain, producing an outstanding range of wines.

One of the pioneering wine growers in the area and AgriTourism working farm, Lomond Wine Estate, is located 8km from Gansbaai, on the Agulhas Plain near the southernmost tip of Africa at Cape Agulhas, the meeting place of the Indian and Atlantic Oceans.

Lomond  Wine Estate is a great destination for wine lovers, families, environmentalists and adventurers. It’s the perfect place to host a large or small event under the Milkwood trees in one of the regions last surviving ancient Milkwood forests.

Lomond’s tasting room is open seven days a week where you can taste and buy the estate’s world-class wines. Get more great benefits by joining the Cellar Club

Selective hand harvesting, sorting and respect for the individual vineyard blocks drives our winemaking processes. These limited-production wines are meticulously crafted from individual vineyards which result in a wine which expresses the essence of the vineyard and the terroir in which they are grown. Lomond’s cultivars, selected to match both the farm’s terroir and climate, consist of Sauvignon Blanc, Merlot, Shiraz, Sémillon, Nouvelle, Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, Mourvedre and Viognier.” Lomond say.

For more than 15 years, our Lomond Estate wines have been known for their true varietal expression and showcase the vibrant fruit and balanced complexities for which this beautiful region is famous.”

Lomond Wine Estate, situated in the heart of the Walker Bay Fynbos Conservancy, celebrate the region by naming each wine after a Fynbos species endemic to Cape Agulhas.

Conservation of the critical endangered Elim Fynbos is the cornerstone on which we have based our farming practices”
